And Then There Were Three

So last Friday, on my day off, my coworker calls my cell. We had layoffs - again. We lost one writer. So now our tiny little team is even tinier . . . in the past month, we’ve gone from 5 to 3. At one time, there were 12 of us! I feel so bad for S . . . she is a single mother of a teenager and just lost her job. In fact, 3 of the 5 people we lost in this office are the only source of income in their homes. Scary stuff.

We couldn’t get all of our work done as it was . . . now we have 2 fewer people. And us writers are perfectionists by nature. It is SOOOOO difficult to take the “Do what you can with what you have” approach when you want to do everything the RIGHT way - not the MAKE DUE way.

Anyway - I’m still here . . . doing what I do . . . and kind of feeling like crap for still being here when others aren’t.

You can’t blame yourself for still being there. You can’t control that. It does really suck for those left go- especially when they are the only income as you said. I’m sorry about how things are going at work though. That does make it hard! I hope things get better soon.

What is it that you do exactly?

    Hi! I’m back :-) Good times . . .

RE: Leann . . . I’m a technical writer. I write online help systems for software. Think of what you see when you choose “Help” in Microsoft Word. I write that kind of stuff. I also write install guides for how to install our software, etc. Specifically, the company I work for creates distribution software - like warehouse management software for companies like Home Depot, electrical distributors, etc.

I LOVE what I do . . . it’s really easy to come to work every day when you like what you do. And I love the people I work with . . . which makes it even easier. I’m very fortunate . . . it just sucks when people are let go :-(

That is really rough, especially for those who are the main source of income. But you know what? It usually works out for the better anyways. Don’t feel bad about something you have no control over.

Lay-offs are hard! I worked for a company for years that went through lay-off after lay-off … they suck. Glad you are safe, so far!

Happy 4th of July - see you soon - Kellan
