Is It Possible?
I’m a Target person. I am not a fan of Wal-Mart. I avoided Wally World with all my might, UNTIL they built one about 5 miles from my house. When all you need is laundry detergent, it’s a lot more convenient to go to Wally World than drive 10 miles to Target. In the past 8 months I’ve been known to bless Wally World with my presence, without even yelling at my kids while in the store! While I still prefer Target and am still not converted to full Wally World-dom, I did go there with my daughter this morning on our way to school - had to get a couple things for Duma.
While in Wal-Mart, I exclaimed not once, not twice, but three times ”OMG - this is EXACTLY what I was looking for!”
I didn’t even know it was possible to find exactly what I was looking for in Wally World!
Have I been converted? Not yet . . . but today didn’t hurt.

I went through a phase before I had kids where I DID NOT shop at Walmart. Ever. Not for anything. I had principles. They were big business knocking out the little guy!
Now I have kids and less dollars and Walmart knows it. Sigh. I cross that threshold way more often than I care to admit.
I can never muster up enough courage to face the crowds at Wally World. I wouldn’t know, but I bet you can find a large number of patrons at WW at anytime of the day.
Our Target and WW are practically equal distance; therefore, I continue to choose La Target!
Now, the place that always surprises and has practically anything you need is Walgreens. Where you can get your Advil, Thai Frozen Dinner, birthday card for your grandma, wine (yes, they have wine now), Flip Flops, and remote control helicopter in such a small space??
I’m still not convinced that WW is the way to go. I LOATHE that place! Tell us what you found that was such a surprise.
We don’t have Target here in Canada, but I have visited the store several times on weekend trip down to the states.
I have to say..I love Wal-Mart!!!!!!!!
What did I find that was a surprise? We were looking for a large rug to put in front of the back door to catch snow and dirt from puppy feet on her way in . . . I found a 4×6 carpet remnant-type rug for $10! I also found a dog bed the exact size I wanted (lab size) for $20 . . . AND, I found a wall hook with 6 hooks on it for $5 . . . it’s a “lovely” fake dark wood with black hooks. Perfect for leashes and coats for cold nighttime potty trips outside here in the snowbelt. None of it is really awesome . . . it’s just that I didn’t actually think I’d find the things I wanted . . . I was figuring a trip to Bed Bath and Beyond (I LOVE that store!) was in my near future.
I prefer Target myself…but we don’t have one close to use. wal-mart is close to me (actually 2 are close to me- one in either direction). So I tend to go there because of the distance. I get annoyed almost every time because there are too many people or not enough cashiers- but the prices are good. Glad you were able to get what you wanted and needed!
Give it a little more time and they will suck you in! Wal-Mart is like the Borg from star trek, you will soon be fully assimilated! Resistance is futile!
I sometimes go the extra distance to just avoid the crowds, or I go at night. Unfortunately, I grew up in SW MO and have know the Wally World my entire life. I worked there as a young mom and all my kids are hooked. How sad it is when they go there as entertainment.
Stupid store. I can’t get out of there for under $100.
LOCATION LOCATION LOCATION!!! I avoid Target here because it is attached to the mall which makes it more of a headache. I used to patronize our old Wal-mart more until they supersized it, added a grocery store, etc. and now it is much larger and it seems you have to walk further to find things. I personally prefer Wal-mart products to Target products as a general rule. However, whenever possible I will avoid both of them and go to a smaller store. Neither store is locally owned and both are chain stores so they are comparable that way and you can’t stop progress.

Mom
I hate, hate, hate Wal-mart. I refuse to go there unless I can’t find what I’m looking for any where else.
When Wal-Mart came to Mankato I LOVED It! It was new and had everything I needed without going to the Target attached to the mall. When we moved to WA there were no Wal-Marts and the Targets were old and dingy as well. So I stuck with Target and still LOVE Target. But, against much opposition, they have built a Super Wal-Mart in Sauk Centre (yes, can you believe it!) where my parents live. My mom even works there. It was wonderful to be able to go and get everything I needed without having to travel to Alex. Plus, they have the brands I was looking for which the smaller grocery stores usually didn’t. I think I was there almost every day we were in Sauk last year for something. I have to say though, it definitely depends on the store. At least this one is brand new and clean. That is huge for me.
Sigh. I do the same thing. But I don’t go there very often. I have a Sam’s Club nearby…:) Yeah, thanks to the prices and the convenience of everything under the sun being there, it will take a long time to die. I read an article that Walmart was on it’s way out, but when I drove by, the parking lot was still full. Oh, and CONGRATULATIONS on not yelling at your kids there. That is a super human accomplishment!
