Still Wants Me Around - Sometimes

Today I get to chaperone Dude’s class field trip. We’re going to the money museum “and we get a real piece of old money when we leave!!!” It’s just too exciting for words, really.

What I’m happy about is that when I told him last week that I was going to chaperone, he hugged me and said “Oh yay! I’m so glad you get to come with! I like having you go on the field trips with us!”

Then we stopped at the bus stop to drop him off at the bus. When I went for a hug and a kiss, just like every other day, he rolled his eyes at me and half-heartedly gave me a hug. I can only assume it’s because Cameron, the pretty little blonde from his class, was already at the bus stop.

At least he still wants me around some of the time! I’ll take what I can get while I can still get it :-)

My 2nd graders still love when their parents get to help on trips. It is so cute to see and it makes me hope my kids want me around then too!

Yesterday was the first time I would have been able to do a field trip thing with Megan (granted it was only to the watershed behind the school). It got cancelled because it was raining so hard! I was bummed! I had even arranged for Taylor to go with another parent on her field trip to the beach (and I wanted to go to that one!). But, I did get to have lunch with Megan at school (no need to do that again anytime soon) so it was ok. I’m looking forward to next year when I can really participate in all these things!

When I taught pre-k the kids were so funny about that kind of stuff. Some of them were so embarrassed when their parents tired to hug them and others didn’t care at all.

This is so good to hear. My friend’s 2nd grader informed her that he didn’t want her on his field trip this year.
And my other friend’s 5th grader advised her that he didn’t want her coming on their swimming field trip…it was too embarrassing with her in a bathing suit.
    OUCH!
