What’s In A Name

I remember when I was a kid and my parents had no trouble knowing the sex of my friends. The only ambiguous name I recall was Chris . . . and then in the 80s along came a couple girls named Jamie . . . OMG! That was really out there for small town midwest ;-)

This knowing the sex of a child by their name is not so anymore. Yesterday when I picked Keira up from school, we went through the regular list of questions . . . how was school, what was for lunch, what work did you choose, who did you play with, and who did you sit by at lunch. She LOVES the who did you sit by at lunch question. She’s been sitting at “The 6 Table” - meaning the large table that 6 kids can sit at. This is the list of people who sat at that table yesterday . . .

Sam
Taylor
Rylie
Alex
Lane
Keira

Now Keira is mine, so I know she’s a girl. I had to ask Keira what the sex of every other child at the table was. There is ONE boy in that group . . . any guesses?

I was just thinking about this topic the other day! Lane is my bet.

    I’ll guess Rylie?

I named my girls like this on purpose. (I don’t know why…it just started that way and I’ve kept it up). They also each have a “y” in their name and end in the “e” sound.

    Bailey
    Ryleigh
    Avery
(the next girl…should she ever appear…will be Sydney)

    Taylor?

My son is Riley…my hubby is worried everyone will think he is a girl.

Jordan and Taylor are some I never know the sex when I see it on my class list

Well, I have a Taylor (girl) and I am always amazed when I hear it as a boy’s name because I always think girl. Leeann, I hate to tell you this but my 8th grade geography teacher was Sydney Kjeldahl (male) and spelled with a “y”. My guess is Lane.

I’m going to guess Lane too.

Are you going to give us the answer?
