Sounds like a fantastic teacher! What a great intro to public school. Here is how I got my students' attention back in my formal teaching days. As their noise level got too loud, I began to whisper as softly as I possibly could. 1-2 kids would see my lips moving and realize they couldn't hear me and began to shush their classmates. It was amazing to hear the ripple effect!

He sounds like a great teacher! I love his ideas- if I ever go back to teaching I'll keep his ideas in mind.

Hey, I may have o borrow his nacho party idea. I am having a hard time getting my kids to pass their addition and subtraction fact tests. Maybe that is the motivation they need. So glad you got to volunteer....I can tell you from a teacher standpoint that it is so helpful to have parents come in and lend a helping hand. So glad school is going so well and you are so pleased with your son's teacher. That really does make for a great year when your child and the teacher fit well!

Megan's class also has the guessing jar and it works very similar. Each student is a "Star Student" for a week and they get to bring the guessing jar home and fill it with something. Then the kids get to guess throughout the week and they count the items together. Last week she came home with a new bouncy ball.

I go in every Tuesday morning and read with the kids. I really like being able to meet them and say to myself, "Oh, THAT'S her!" :)
