Ya ya ya - I’ll admit it - I blogged while at work. Every day after lunch, I’d take a good 30 minutes and throw down a post and check on some blogs. Now that I have to actually walk down to my office and turn on my computer, it’s not so convenient to throw out a post. Oh the crap is still in my brain, taking up space, it just doesn’t make it to the rest of the universe. I know, that’s very dissappointing to everyone
Now that I’ve got my ducks in a row (i.e. the Christmas crap is put away, my house is clean and in order, my kids are back in school, and I’ve got my computer ready for home/unemployment) I’ve actually got a schedule of sorts again. I actually showered BEFORE taking Princess to school today! What a concept!
And now that I’ll be on my computer again every day working, I hope to be able to brain dump more often . . . I didn’t realize how much I needed that brain dump! I’m also going to start doing more reviews . . . like all those hikes I take with my fam . . . I was thinking how often I look online to try to find new hikes and good hikes for the family, but come up short. So we’ll see what happens now that my life and schedule have totally changed.
Oh - and to all you SAHMs out there - OMG you are SAINTS! Seriously, my days are so full and scheduled and over before I even seem to get started. The to do list isn’t any shorter . . . it’s just different than when I was working outside the home. Of course, you all know this already. I used to prioritize my to do list based on the date . . . did we have an after-school activity and when was the “to do item” due. Now, I’ve got all this time and this huge list, and I want everything done in one day. Not gonna happen. One thing I must say that I LOVE LOVE LOVE already about not working outside the home . . . evenings with my kids. Evenings that I can spend relaxing with them without thinking about work and when I’m going to make the cupcakes for the class party and how I’m going to get my hours in at work when I need to go to Princess’ school for a program during the middle of the day.
Got any tips for the newbie? Specifically - how do you prioritize your to do list? What’s your favorite “perk” about being a SAHM?
I’ve decided that working moms are the saints! They are also more efficient at getting things done. For instance, instead of relaxing and enjoying 2 cups of coffee, a WM just drinks them and moves on. A SAHM has just “wasted” an hour enjoying coffee. However, I do consider it a treat and since I LOVE my alone time I wouldn’t trade it. But the best part of being home is all of the activities and volunteering at I can do at the school with the kids. I just wouldn’t be able to do that if I were working so that’s what I love.
I am wondering what it is like to be a SAHM when your children are in school. Wow, how much more I might be able to get done. Right now with the 2 little ones home and only one in school I feel like everytime I turn around the 2 little ones have just destroyed what ever it was I just did. So I move on and go back to it. But it is a never ending cycle. Please tell me what it will be like when all kids are in school and I “can” actually have a clean house for more than 5 minutes? When it is all said and done though I wouldn’t trade going to “work” over staying home for anything if I didn’t have to.
Sounds like you are adjusting nicely to your new life style. There are so many advantages to both and it’s nice that you have an opportunity to experience the other side. Enjoy and have fun with it!! Love…mom
SAHM’s are saints to the highest power - no question!
SAHM/WAHM - whatever at-home you are, a prioritized list is critical. I am a firm believer that we fill our time no matter how much or how little of it we have. 1 hour and 8 “to-do’s”? No problem! Those same 8 to-do’s and 4 days? Well, they’ll get done - most likely in the final half-hour of those 4 days!
Make your list, prioritize it, and move “someday” items to a different list altogether. They have their place, but if you can’t cross them off today or tomorrow - move ‘em on out. Oh - and definitely keep that shower on your daily list! It’s there for me too, but some days I need to schedule a TIME for it. Somehow a 9pm shower doesn’t seem like an accomplishment…
Enjoy your time!
As much as I’d love to sit here and tell you about my efficient strategy for staying organized and focused….MWAHAHAHA….I can’t keep a straight face long enough to get the words typed.
It gets done when it gets done. Prioritizing? BAH!
I’m glad you’re enjoying your new way of life. I work part-time and I find that a perfect balance!
But I don’t have any kind of schedule or list of priorities. I just take each day at a time and do (or not do) what I think needs to be done.
You’ll figure it out!
My favorite perk is never being made to feel horrible about having to call in because one of the kids are sick. “I’m sorry to inconvenience you…but my 2 yr old needs me more!”
As for being busier now…I know, right? How is that possible? I have a hard time getting anything done. Grr.
