So last summer, Princess learned how to ride her bike without training wheels. Then she promptly refused to ride it. We went to the track at the school a couple times this summer so she could have a nice level, soft place with bit wide turns and no traffic to practice on. No go. she rode a tiny bit then didn’t want to. Basically she freaked herself out. I told her she might want to start riding so she could ride with her friends this summer. Nope. I told her that no matter what, I was selling the trail bike when she turned 7 and then she’d have to stay with a sitter while the rest of us went bike riding. That might have gotten to her a little bit, but she made no big moves.
She spent this summer chasing her friends around on her scooter . . . Friend 1 and Friend 2 were on their bikes, and Princess would chase them on her scooter. She kept up very well, considering! But then last week, Dude and his buddy and her friends made a track in one of the kids’ yards. Not a good place for a scooter. So she got out Friend 1’s little brother’s bike and started riding (hers had a flat tire). So I got her tire fixed and she’s been off and riding! She came in last night and said “Ya know Mom, it’s so nice to be able to ride around with my friends because my pusher leg was getting really tired chasing them around on my scooter!” HAHAHAHAHA!!!
On another note . . . she also took the obligatory dive into the ditch that all the kids on our cul de sac do when they learn to ride. That ditch is like a magnet for kids who are just learning to ride! I heard her scream from in the house - Dude did, too. So he bolts outside with his rescue pack full of bandages and cleansing agents and whatever else he can fit in there, gets on his bike, and heads to see what’s up. As he flies past her on his bike, he decides to make a quick turn, and unintentionally joins her in the ditch. One of the funniest things I’ve seen in quite a while! Neither one of them were injured - just some scrapes and bruises, which he could thankfully fix right there at the scene with his supplies
I’m sooo glad that she is finally comfortable riding her bike. When she stayed with us this summer and we went camping, she really worked hard on her scooter to keep up with the rest on their bikes. Amazingly she did great on that scooter. She has such skinny little legs but she really has strength in them!!! I think she will really enjoy the family bike rides now that she is riding on her own!! Congrats to Princess!!! Love…Mom
Good for her! Ashlyn learned to ride without training wheels this summer, but we are working on the being able to start on her own now…..I think she could do it- she just doesn’t believe tha she can start on her own. Glad no one was hurt in the fall!
