It Took Until Day 10

No - Princess hasn’t gotten a note home yet, but she DID get on the wrong bus home today! Poor thing :-(

In her defence, the bus schedule is stupid - they ride bus A in the morning and bus B in the afternoon to come home. So my 6 year old has to remember her classroom number, her thunder time room number, and TWO bus numbers, and remember which bus to get on in the a.m. versus the p.m. (both buses drive right by our stop).

The bus they ride home in the afternoon was VERY full, so they got a note home this past Monday that said on Wednesday they would switch from riding bus B in the afternoon to riding bus A. Good thing - yay - they’ll be riding the same bus in the a.m. and p.m. The bummer was that Princess thought the change started today - so she got on bus A. Dude didn’t realize she wasn’t on the right bus until they’d already left school; so when he got off the bus with his friends at our stop, he told me right away she was on bus A (which had driven right by our stop without stopping 5 minutes earlier . . . because it wasn’t his stop until tomorrow.)

Ugh! So I told the bus driver, who called bus A on the radio, who said he’d be back with her in 15 minutes. They were 15 minutes away!!! She was sitting in the back of the bus and he didn’t even know she was on there because she was too small to see over the seat! So I waited at the stop until she got there. Bus driver A is an awesome driver . . . he was Dude’s driver the past 2 years - very nice guy. He got off the bus and apologized profusely for something that wasn’t even his fault.

Princess was a TROOPER! She didn’t cry - she was a little scared, but she didn’t cry at all - I was actually very surprised. We of course had the talk about how even if you get on the wrong bus, you’ll still get home, but that once you figure it out, you should tell the bus driver right away.

So Wednesday she actually has to get on bus A to come home. I sure hope she remembers! And I hope her big brother will make sure she’s on the bus before it leaves :-)

How about you? Your kids had an “incident” yet?

That makes me so sad, but very proud of her. I am scared just thinking about it. It is great that the bus driver could reach the other driver and it all turned out okay.

Oh yes. When Megan started kinder. See we are the only ones at our stop and it was a new stop for the bus. It was about a month in. I had been standing on the road (a very busy road) so the bus driver could see me but this particular day I was further down the driveway and he couldn’t see the truck or me. So he zoomed right past forgetting to stop. Luckily I knew where he would end up so I caught up with him there. Megan was totally crying and freaked out. I had to explain to her that she needs to speak up if something like this happens. The bus driver felt horrible! From then on I made sure I was always at the stop. Luckily she got back on the next day. Good for Princess for being such a big girl!
