Long Pants Season

Back in May, I wrote about Short Pants Season. So imagine my surprise 4 months later when it got a little chilly and my kids tried to find a pair of pants to wear to school ;-) They each did manage to scrounge one pair that didn’t make them look like they were waiting for a flood, but I realized that we had to go shopping - the dreaded school clothes shopping. So we loaded the fam in the Jeep yesterday and headed to the outlet mall (I am SOOOO glad we have one of those!) and man did we shop! I love sales . . . and when I found pants for Keira for $6, we picked out 4 pair - one in each color. When we found pants for Jason for $8, we picked out 4 pair - although he’s not so in to purple and pink pants, so we went with jeans. On to the next store and we found even more pants and shirts TOTALLY on sale . . . Mom and Dad even found a few things at the mall, too. So, a gazillion bags and pairs of pants later, we headed home; sadly, without a single new pair of shoes . . . but I’ll get over it :-)
I do have to say, that if kid’s pants didn’t have that adjustable waist thing happening, we would NEVER be able to buy our kids anything other than sweatpants. If we get the pants the right size for their waist, the pants are about 3 inches too short. If we get them the right length, the pants are a couple inches too big around the waist. I guess I always thought that my kids were pretty average - not too skinny (at 4 and 7 they eat us out of house and home!) and not too fat (lots of outside playtime for us). But when we try on pants, it’s a nightmare to find any that fit. Do you have the same trouble? Is the adjustable waistband a must, or have you found a brand that seems true to size? That’s another beef I have . . . yesterday, we bought my 7 year old pants in sizes 4, 6, and 7 . . . you’d think that at least with kids’ clothes they’d be somewhat uniform.

But, we’re finished buying pants, and I’m happy as a clam :-)

Glad you found some great deals! I also discovered last week that my daughter is no longer in size 6. And, to top that, she apparently skipped right over 7 during the summer. So, the new pants I bought her (at Old Navy Outlet…WITH the adjustable waist! FOR $6!!!) last spring…will never be worn by her. She is 6 years old, in a size 8…wow. So, hopefully next week I can go through all her pants and see what actually still fits and how many more we need to go buy. Darn kids and their growth! :)

I had to buy some pants for my oldest & those adjustable waistbands are the bomb. I was lucky and managed to find things on sale too.

We had to buy shoes the other night–nothing adjustable there. Sandals in the summer are a good thing, too bad we can’t wear them year round.

So glad you found a good deal…that is my favorite thing! I have a problem buying clothes for my daugher - and probably the little man when he is bigger- she is SO tall that I have to buy her clothes in a size bigger for her length. So the waist it too big and falls down. I’m a big fan of adjustable waist bands, but my poor child has also learned to pull up her pants quite often too! :) I find that Old Navy runs small though…for some reason, every brand seems to have their own sizes…Ashlyn has pants in the same size that barely clothes, fit just right, and fall off…..why can’t these things be uniform so I know what to buy her?

I too have the waistband issue and the elastic waists are great for Megan who is a skinny minny. I’m tempted to buy her slims but unfortunately Taylor is built like me so she will probably never be a slim (although she is by no means fat - just a normal size). So I cinch in the waists so I make sure I can pass them down to Taylor - even though they still seem to be big on Megan. Of all places, I really like the Target jeans or the jeans I find at Costco. They seem to fit the best.

I’ve always had that problem with my step-daughters pants too. Now that she wears juniors clothes it’s a bit better because they usually have short, medium, and tall in each size. But when she was little her pants were always either too short or too big in the waist. I’m guessing that’s why they are making the adjustable waistbands now. I’m having that problem with Hailey already- she needs 12 month clothes for the length, but they are too big in the waist. Ugh!

Yah, We have the exact same problem. Robby has short legs, but still can’t fit into the waist! Maggie is just plain skinny. I like Children’s Place on her. Robby is hard to find cheap jeans for; he looks best in Levi’s and similar brands… $$$. If he had his way, he would wear sweats all the time. We don’t have a outlet mall anywhere near! And Robby just bearly fits into most of his pants right now… we are going to have a big shopping trip sometime in the near future.

Adustable waist is definitely a must for us too. My son cannot wear any pants that are not adjustable waist or they just fall off. Great invention!
