The Post Where I Get Judgemental

As you’ve been reading, we had a BLAST on vacation. A lot of the reason for that is that our kids travel so well . . . we live far from family, so they’ve been travelling since they day they were born. A lot of it is also because for the most part we’re laid back . . . OK, maybe not me so much, I like things to happen how I want them to, but I also had realistic expectations. I think that’s the key to a good day at an amusement park . . . expectation. NEVER expect to get anywhere fast, pee anywhere clean, or buy anything cheap. So here I go with the not-so-cools of the trip . . .

To the mother at the entrance to Mickey’s Toon Town Fair - I promise you that it was NOT necessary to drag your daughter, kicking and screaming, across the pavement to see the Princesses just because YOU wanted her picture with them. She kept screaming she didn’t want to see them . . . why make her? It’s supposed to be the Happiest Place on Earth!!!

To the other mother at the entrance to Mickey’s Toon Town Fair - I guarantee you that it was completely unnecessary to knock down that 2 year old as you ran, towing your 5 year old daughter behind you, so you could be first in line to see the Princesses. The least you could have done was stop and help the little boy up instead of continuing on like you had no clue what you’d just done. We got there 30 minutes later and only had to wait 30 minutes - and we didn’t even knock down any toddlers on the way! AND, the Princesses looked the same and were just as cordial as they were when you got there.

To the father at the entrance to the Dumbo ride - Yes, the line sucked. But hey, newsflash - it’s DISNEY! There are a lot of people. There are lines everywhere. You’re gonna spend all day walking around looking for a short line. Sometimes you just have to suck it up and stand in line for the ride your kids wants to go on - it is, afterall, all about the kids at Disney, isn’t it?

To the mother at Sea World - No 8 year old boy should wear a bright orange Speedo. Especially an overweight 8 year old boy. Actually, NO male should ever wear a Speedo!

To the lady at the Disney ticket counter in the hotel - Smile. Use some inflection in your voice. It won’t kill ya - I promise! I mean, it may be 7:00 a.m. and you may not want to be up, but hey - we’re here, too. And we’re happy and smilin’! You work at Disney - SMILE I said! It’s The Happiest Place On Earth :-)
To the father on the airplane who let his kid kick the seat in front of him for an entire 3 1/2 hour flight - STOP IT! It’s not cool - it’s not comfortable for the other person - and it’s not all about your kid! None of the other kids on the plane needed to do that. Neither did yours. I felt bad for that lady in front of you.

To the airline people - How ANNOYING that you charge for checked luggage. Really - I’d rather just pay more in airfare and not have to do that. All you’ve done is make people carry even more crap on the plane when it’s already a crowded nightmare. (Oh, but thank you for not charging for car seats . . . I REALLY appreciate that!)

To the mother in the seat in front of us - Pack a friggin’ snack! Don’t bitch and complain at the airline staff for not having a teeny tiny bag of pretzels for your kid. The plane left right before lunch - it’s a 3 hour flight. Bring some food along! A tiny bag of pretzels wouldn’t have held your kid over that long anyway.

Thank you for listening :-)

Ahh, I wrote almost this same post as an Open Letter in late April. It never ceases to amaze me how miserable people can be! At least you all had the right frame of mind. There are several places like Disney that I use my motto, go all the way or don’t go at all.

    AMEN!

The beauty of a blog…you can vent all you want & be as judgemental as you want. Seriously though, why go on vacation and spend rediculous amounts of money if your going to be miserable. I’ll bet that mom that forced her daughter to meet the princesses is a scrapbooker…we scrapbookers are relentless in our quest for the perfect scrap pages.

    although…

    I’ve never done that…

    just say’n….
